A massive new creative district is coming to Woolwich as the historic Royal Arsenal is transformed into a concert venue, studio and events space complex hosting music, theatre, dance, comedy, exhibitions and more. Woolwich Works, opening in September, will also be home to a number of renowned performing arts companies, including the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, theatre company Punchdrunk, Europe’s first majority black and minority ethnic orchestra Chineke! Orchestra, Greenwich-based dance company Protein and the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair.
Woolwich Works will very much be about the local community and providing access to the arts. The artists in residence will launch community and school projects once the space is open to help create opportunities to get into the creative industries. And to gear up to that September opening, Protein will be staging En Route in July, an in-person performance combining dance, live music and storytelling that moves through the streets of Woolwich.
