And they have one request: “Just don’t call it a wine bar. Or a cocktail bar.”
So what is it then? You Call the Shots is billing itself as a “good-time bar” – fair enough, it sounds like they’ve got the credentials to back that up. The new spot comes from the same group that brought east London two of its favourite food-centric pubs (The Plough and The Prince Arthur) and the team has drafted an expert somm to do the wine list, while The Prince Arthur’s Joe Couldridge is doing the food; they’ve got a very solid team.
Alongside beers, wines and cocktails, the bar food menu put together by Couldridge will include the likes of prawn guanciale, mini devilled crab doughnuts, cheeseburger dogs and cherry & Courvoisier cannoli.
You Call the Shots will also host a series of residencies (something they’ve already put into motion at The Plough), providing established and up-and-coming chefs with the chance to try out new ideas. Watch this space for more.
