music, magic & drama hits the savoy

Inspired by the three founders of The Savoy Theatre – dramatist WS Gilbert, composer Arthur Sullivan and hotelier Richard D’Oyly Carte – the Beaufort Bar has brought us music, magic and drama through a brand new collection of quirky drinks this winter. Found inside The Savoy Hotel, the Beaufort Bar is opulent and seductive. We love that it feels a bit special, relaxed enough to dress down but you most definitely won’t be out of place if you are dressed up to the nines on a Tuesday eve.

The menu is split into the three sections. Music offers light mixed drinks, wines and Champagnes; magic takes on gins, mezcals and tequilas and drama ventures into dark territory, tempting those out late into the night with whisky, Calvados, Armagnac, grappa and Cognac. That’s a lot to handle so where do you start? Luckily the waiters are all too keen to help point out a tipple to suit your taste. We began with the rather fitting and aptly named The Founder – Patron Silver Tequila, Martini Rubino Vermouth, verjus, tomato and celery shrub Audemus Umami Spirit. You’d think this would blow your head clean off, but it was surprisingly easy to sip on though definitely deserves respect.

Cocktails against a dark back backdrop

One of our faves from the menu was The Dramatist – Jack Daniels Savoy Single Barrel whisky, vanilla syrup, Artemis cold brewed coffee concentrate, Mr Black’s coffee amaro and Louis Roederer Champagne – again a beaut, smooth and definitely very different. With all the serves we had, each had its own unique story that gave us a little insight in the history of the Savoy and the personality of the people who have shaped it into what it is today, and boy what a fun journey it was.

Of course, with boozalicous drinks as strong and long as these, eating is most definitely not cheating and head chef Fabrice Lasnon has created a number of small plates and sharing dishes to restore the order in the booze versus food ratio. We’re talking pork belly parcels, burger sliders and ridiculously addictive nuts and crackers. YES.
