The Museum of London is moving from its current home in London Wall to West Smithfield and you can get a first look at what the new museum will be like. It’s not projected to open until 2024 but designs for the new space have already been drawn up and they’re going on display in both the Museum of London and at the derelict West Smithfield site.
The design team, led by Stanton Williams and Asif Khan with Julian Harrap Architects, plan to turn the market buildings into a 24-hour cultural destination able to welcome over two million visitors a year. As well as having more space to showcase the museum’s collections and host bigger exhibitions, the new site will also become a centre for learning. By the looks of these initial images, it’s going to be something rather special.
