Monviso Is Bringing Piedmontese Bar Snacks to London

The new concept is in residence at Callooh Callay in Shoreditch

London’s not short of places to get great Italian food but Desirèe Balma and her partner Nick Jones (who both have a decade of experience working in bars) are adding to the scene with Monviso. Named after the highest mountain in Piedmont, the kitchen concept is celebrating food from Turin and other northern Italian cities, taking inspo from the recipes that Desirèe would could with her mother back in Italy.

Opened at the beginning of February, Monviso is doing evening services Tuesday – Saturday at Callooh Callay, serving bar snacks like:

  • olive all’ascolana – fried Gordal olives stuffed pork and herbs
  • marinated olives in olive oil, rosemary, Calabrian chillies and lemon zest
  • giardiniera
  • fries with shaved parmigiano
  • gnocchi fritti with salami
  • focaccia selection with mortadella, ricotta and pickles

The pair will also be launching a delivery service offering focaccia sandwiches, with fillings like porchetta and salsa verde, and they’re planning to start doing supper clubs soon too, so expect to see a lot more Monviso in your life.
