Samyukta Nair, the restaurateur behind Jamavar and Bombay Bustle, is opening a third Mayfair restaurant this autumn, and this time she’s taking inspo from old world China. MiMi Mei Fair, set over three floors of a Georgian townhouse, will be decked out like the residence of an empress, with a yellow dining room and the Peacock Room for private dining behind it; the blue and coral accented Parlour; and The Library, with a green marble fireplace and dark wooden tables.
Chinese-Singaporean Executive Chef Peter Ho (ex-Hakkasan) is heading up the kitchen and his menu includes dishes like crispy golden langoustine with Perigord truffle, steamed XO okra with shallot & enoki mushroom crumble, Peking duck with homemade pancakes; black pepper & garlic crab; Dong Po braised pork belly with sesame mantou cigars; and black bean chili & garlic aubergine. There’ll also be a dim sum menu featuring jewel-coloured xiao long bao, sea urchin & turnip puffs, spicy Szechuan pork wontons, and seaweed & spinach jade dumplings.
The cocktails sound no less luxurious – you can sip on a Chestnut Sour (with chrysanthemum flower, mastiha & chestnut liqueur) and a Green Park (with gin, pandan leaf and osmanthus flower extract) in the mirror-walled Moon Bar.
