It’s clearly the season for food markets – not only is Market Hall West End opening but Elephant & Castle’s huge (mostly) indoor Italian market, Mercato Metropolitano, is expanding with a second market in Mayfair due to open next month. This one’s going to be rather special thanks to the location – Mercato Mayfair will be housed inside (so it’s going to be totally covered) the Grade-I listed St Mark’s church, which has undergone a massive £5 million refurb.
There’ll be restaurants, bars, patisseries, delis and food counters spread across the four floors – there’s also a roof terrace which is bound to get a lot of action next summer – and like the original, the space will also host a range of events, classes and workshops too.
