Rich,
warm, and delightfully 1970s, tabasco isn’t a colour that makes an appearance all too often, but when it does, it really does. The spicy shade really captured imaginations for A/W 16, popping up everywhere from smart wear to sportswear. The tabasco trend saw tradition go out the window, with a bunch of designers choosing to cut suits in the colour. Topman Design went super retro, with wide collars and overlong cuffs; Ann Demeulemeester showed a selection of shearling two-pieces; and Daks went just as bold with their tailored and tactile numbers. Contrasting textures were all the rage on the sportier side of the things too, with jersey, teddy bear fuzz and high shine satin all getting a look in. And Maharishi proved that utilitarian doesn’t have to mean unassuming with a collection full of heavyweight materials and tabasco camo print.
[URIS id=62947] HOW TO GET THE LOOK…Again, as with most of these block colours, you can temper the heat by building one tabasco-coloured piece into a black or navy ensemble. Or you could go one better and find an item that has done the colour combining for you. And although seen on the runway, a tabasco suit presents a high degree of difficulty in the real world, so ease into the trend by keeping it casual.
