AW 16/17 shows saw a veritable rainbow of colours rock the runway, one of the boldest and brightest being electric blue. Designers interpreted the shade in a variety of ways; Christopher Kane stayed more minimalist with understated graphic details whereas Liam Hodges and Casely Hayford played with slogans and prints respectively.

The real standout in this trend, aside from the colour, was the range of fabrics on show…layered fine gauge knits at Etro, corduroy coats at Xander Zhou, metallic sheen at Katie Eary, even a splash of sequins at Burberry gave the clothes a dynamic, tactile quality and lifted looks to another level. Jeremy Scott, as one would expect, played by his own rules at Moschino, going unashamedly big and bold. His high-shine puffa jackets, wax-look trousers, and brash colour combos had the boys looking like they’d stepped straight out of a comic book.

HOW TO GET THE LOOK…

The benefit of working with one colour is that you can apply it both casual and smart attire…an electric blue track top and trainers will have the same impact as with tailored trousers. It also affords you the opportunity to play around with contrasting textures and materials. And if you’re not wanting to go blue head-to-toe, you can temper the brightness by pairing it with black; a strong colour combo that never goes out of style.
