MEGAN ADAMS | RE:STORE

As you know we’re really making an effort to live more sustainably, and using less plastic is one way to do that. And with shops like Re:Store created by people like Megan Adams, it’s getting that bit easier.

Where do you live in London and what do you like about the area?

I actually live in Kilburn at the moment but am trying to move East currently to be closer to the shop! I do love Queen’s Park farmers market on a Sunday where I can get all my lovely unpackaged veg and a few treats too, and Quartieri, which is an amazing authentic Naples pizzeria on Kilburn High Road.

What inspired you to set up Re:Store?

Just over a year ago I made a new year’s resolution to use less plastic and found it really difficult as we are so surrounded by it in our modern lifestyles. I became a bit obsessed with avoiding single use plastics and how to live in a minimal waste way, and reducing my impact on the planet. After a few visits to the existing zero waste stores in London at the time (Hetu and Harmless) I got inspired to open my own store without packaging.

Why did you choose Hackney Downs Studio as the location?

Hackney Downs Studios is such a brilliant location for the store, not only because the Hackney & East London demographic is generally environmentally conscious and forward thinking, but the studios themselves are a hub of creative energy and were really supportive in getting a business like mine set up.

Aside from shopping at Re:Store, what tips would you give people who want to start living more sustainably?

I would say stop and think about the products and items you use everyday, and ask yourself if they are having a negative impact on the planet and whether there are more sustainable alternatives. This is not something anyone can do overnight so it’s about baby steps and just tackling one thing at a time.

Which zero-waste/sustainable brands are you loving right now and why?

So many! But a few in particular are Fit Pit natural deodorant because it comes in a glass jar that can be returned to them to reuse, and it actually works! Loop Loop plantable wildflower greetings cards are genius, beautiful and are made by my lovely friend. And I’m currently obsessing over the new vetiver & cedarwood candle from Self Care Company, which smells gorgeous.

Describe your perfect day in London.

A delicious brunch somewhere like Milk Beach in Queen’s Park or Dusty Knuckle in Dalston followed by a walk in the park and and the afternoon either in a pub garden in the summer or curled up inside with some friends and great wine!
