We’ve
said before denim is never out of fashion…But this S/S 2013 it’s going to be huge, expect to see it everywhere. Denim isn’t just set to casual dressing anymore, it’s fast becoming high statement fashion. The boldest trend coming this season is photo-real prints. Which is why we are beyond excited by the collaboration of Mary Katrantzou x Current/Elliott.Mary Katrantzou’s LFW show was packed with daring, bright prints which featured bank notes and postage stamps. This has become the inspiration for the designers first ever collaboration, and her first ever venture into denim. Mary Katrantzou x Current/Elliott is a denim capsule, which reflects the acclaimed S/S 2013 runway show. The notes and stamps have been muted down and replaced with visas and passports prints.
It was actually Mary who got in touch with Current/Elliott creative director Azria Serge. Boy are we glad she did?…“We thought denim would be a great challenge and with Serge, there seemed to be a synergy with our work – from opposite sides of the spectrum… We wanted it to feel very different to what we usually do,” says Katrantzou. Azria adds “Mary brought to me such unexpected ideas with her expert craftsmanship, I was immediately convinced.”
It’s not that easy to pull off a mainline Katrantzou print, nor is it easy to purchase, when prices start at £550. Which is why this collaboration is a thing of beauty – you can wear a single piece with your favourite jeans or three, as the clean colour palette of sugar coated almonds can make the top to toe print clash a possibility. The 23 piece collection ranges from £225 – £510, and includes shorts, shirts and dresses, as well as jeans. Katrantzou summarises the collaboration perfectly “I love that we can create alongside our ready-to-wear collection, something that’s casual and fun and easy!” It is one of the most exciting collaborations of the year and if we’re honest, it’s bloody brilliant, we can’t wait to get a piece!
Mary Katrantzou x Current/Elliott is available from 5 March
