Originals are celebrating their birthday in style with another killer collaboration with the queen of print – Mary Katrantzou. The capsule collection is emblazoned with iconic Katrantzou hyper prints in techo-kaleidoscopic colours. What is the beginning of a long term union with Adidas Originals, an emphasis on the female form and feminine strength was the inspiration behind their first collection.

Mary had free reign over the expansive Adidas archives. Looking back to the 1970s and 80s, Mary took inspiration from medal winners footwear and created a unique series of prints. Outsoles, laces and icons of the Adidas running shoe have all been incorporated into the design.

In Mary’s words… “I grew up, like so many other kids around the world, wearing Adidas sneakers and bringing my vision to such a global brand was a great challenge. They were interested in creating a line, which would be a combination of our designs. They wanted something distinctive, feminine and at that time I was working on the SS14 collection that was based on shoes and a big part of it was based on sneakers, so I felt it was a sign.”

The legendary ZX 5000 has been molded in super soft suede and covered in mental spikes. The striking shoe features the Adidas Trefoil logo. Carrying on the designer’s precision prints, the Equipment Racer features a clear glitter sole with a striped back mesh in a floral pattern.

Dirk Schoenberger, Global Creative Director at Adidas is excited for the launch this Saturday, November 15th saying… “The collaboration between Adidas and Mary Katrantzou merges the exceptional talent of one of the most interesting designers of today and a company that embraces many different cultures from sports, pop, music and fashion… I admire Mary’s extraordinary sense of printing techniques, colours and silhouette that will bring another amazing new aesthetic to the Adidas Originals women’s collection.”

With sports-luxe continuing to define the luxury market, the pieces not only look incredible, they also perform, proving you can have both style and substance. Isn’t it about time you upgraded your gym kit? Any excuse!
