When David Fairbairn found himself plodding through a tedious career, his only escape was riding his Yamaha Fazer 600 in to the distance. Whilst wearing jeans during a ride, a thought came to him ‘these won’t save my ass in an accident’…and thus, Maple Motorcycle Jeans was born.
Finding a huge niche in market, Fairbairn realised that riders were in need of style as well as substance from their uniform. Tired of wearing uncomfortable motorcycling pants, Fairbairn set off on a ride of a lifetime, to create denim jeans that look good but also protect. Alongside designer Satish Tailor, the pair looked to Kickstarter to help launch Maple Motorcycle Jeans, what happened was not short of a miracle, within two days, the £30,000 target was smashed and an unlikely ambassador jump on board, Keanu Reeves. Maple Jeans are champions of ‘British made’ and with the success of the Kickstarter campaign, they plan to expand, bringing jobs back to UK craftsmen and ignite the homemade industry. Each pair of Maple jeans are produced in the UK with manufacturing partner Blackburn. Creating “the highest quality, most stylish motorcycle jeans in the world.” most pairs are lined with Kevlar, the Superman of fabrics, its strength is five times that of steel, yet incredible flexible and light.
Looking like your everyday jean, the features are found beneath the surface – 13.5 Oz Kurabo Selvedge denim is used as a based and removable hip and knee amour come as standard. The Kelvar lining covers over 60% of the jeans and all seams are flat felled. Design touches include a higher rise to cover the lower back, brace buttons for keeping in place as well as looking good.
Such a success, Maple jeans have now design a pair without the Kelvar lining for customers to wear off the road. British designed, British made and saving lives…What’s not to love about Maple Motorcycle Jeans.
