After working at her family’s bakeries in Singapore and Malaysia, and cooking in a Michelin kitchen in Italy, Abby Lee is heading to Shoreditch to open her own place Mambow. Short for ‘mama’s bowls’, Mambow will be open all day, focusing on bowl food at lunchtimes, and there’ll be an emphasis on low waste too, with Abby using leftover fruit and veg to make soups and winter loaf cakes.

For all the early birds, Mambow will be serving frittatas, coconut yoghurt bowls, porridge bowls and pastries in the morning, alongside fresh pressed juices and The Roasting Shed coffee. Come lunch, you’ll be able to choose from signature bowls like the Chick Flick (with black rice, za’taar sprouts, roasted beets, spicy green grilled chicken, salsa verde and leftover pickles) and the Beet It (with farro tabbouleh, fennel, charred broccoli, beetroot patty, mixed tamari seeds and harissa). You can also build your own from a range of ingredients like preserved lemon, mixed bean rendang, five spice crispy pork belly, fried shan tofu, carrot top pesto, and kimchi.

Mambow will also be doing weekend brunch, with dishes like nasi lemak with Malaysian fried chicken and coconut pandan rice; super green omelette with feta, Swiss chard and pickled chillies; and kimchi and taleggio toasties. Abby will also be hosting evening supper clubs at Mambow, themed around different world cuisines, so watch out for those too.
