It’s been a hit at Peckham’s Market, but now Mambow is striking out on its own
Mambow fans will be happy to hear that the modern Malaysian spot is taking the leap into permanent restaurant territory. Until now, the cult favourite has been running as a stall inside Peckham’s Market, a co-working/retail/restaurant space on Rye Lane, and before that, as a pop-up in Spitalfields. Today it was announced that chef Abby Lee will take her concept north of the river again with a location set to open in Clapton next month.
The new space will have more room for covers (enough for 20 inside and 20 outside) and an open kitchen, which will be the restaurant’s focal point. Lee has been developing an expanded menu to match and, while we don’t know exactly what’ll be on it just yet, we can expect plenty of punchy flavours and authentic but playful takes on Malaysian classics. There’ll also be a standing bar at the Clapton site, from which guests can order house cocktails and natural wines.
About the new opening, Lee says “It’s been a lot of fun playing around with the menu in a bigger kitchen and coming up with new dishes – people have been so receptive to everything I’ve had on the menu so far so it’ll be nice to be able to introduce even more Malaysian flavours to everyone who comes down to visit in Clapton.”
