Luna Review | “Big Date Energy by Tower Bridge”

The duo behind Tower Bridge’s Italian gem Legare have opened up a new neighbourhood wine bar, Luna

Across the cobblestone street from their founding site in Shad Thames, the name Luna comes from the moon’s role in biodynamic wine making.

Whilst Legare is dedicated to Italian cuisine, Luna feels like it’s a playful sibling, experimenting with flavours and seasonal ingredients to create dishes that are instead heavily influenced by their wine list.

Eat This

Curated by Legare’s exec chef Matt Beardmore, the menu features a selection of small plates that change regularly, giving you an excuse to visit often. We’d say Luna is the ideal spot for a few glasses and grazing on small plates, but if you’re looking for something a bit more substantial, we’d recommend starting here and then making your way to Legare after.

We’re still dreaming of the fried poussin with curry leaves and lime and the warm potato dinner rolls, with cultured butter, a welcome change up from the typical sourdough and olive oil. Another highlight was the Cornish seabass with tangy Vignola cherries and tarragon. Be sure to save room for pud, especially when there is an indulgent chocolate and tonka bean eclair on the list.

Drink This

Similar to the food menu, Luna’s wine list doesn’t narrow itself to a particular region or style, instead taking a more classic wine bar approach with bottles from across the globe. Their main focus is on championing producers doing great things in the wine world, which we are certainly on board with.

We put our faith in the hands of the knowledgeable team to pick out the perfect vinos for our preferences, cherry picking us some bangers from the list. If you like what you drank during your visit, you can grab a bottle for the road from their bottle shop too.

Why Go

Good wine bars in Tower Bridge are few and far between; therefore, Luna is a welcome addition to the streets of Shad Thames. We recommend nailing your next date night with a romantic walk along the river, followed by a couple of glasses and plates at Luna.
