Low-Intervention English Wine Made in Bethnal Green | Neighbourhood Watch

This urban winery makes natural wine from English grapes inside an old umbrella factory

Founded by Hugh Thorn and Caroline Price in 2023, Numbers Wine is making low-intervention English vino in the heart of East London. Housed inside a former umbrella factory in Bethnal Green, Numbers is all about showcasing just what British wine can be and to make wine production more accessible in the city.

Using English-grown grapes like Bacchus, Rondo and Pinot Noir, Hugh and Caroline vinify and bottle on-site, with production done in small batches – the latest release a 500-bottle run of 25 Fire Horse, a still Bacchus named in honour of Lunar New Year as it suits being paired with Asian food, complete with bespoke labels created in collaboration with artist Gareth McConnell.

The winery is open to the public as a bar and tasting venue on Fridays and Saturdays, with plenty of Numbers (obvs) on offer, alongside a small selection of other local drinks and nibbles. Aside from tastings, the winery plays host to a number of other events, including film nights, chef-led dinners, and Pet Nat making workshops.

Numbers puts on plenty of industry events too, with a big Brit Nat party, featuring over 50 producers and 80 Pet Nats to taste, coming up in June. That may be opening up to the public, so watch this space…
