Industrialand architectural materials – brick, concrete, reclaimed wood – might seem a little too stripped back and simple for some tastes, but believe us, there can be real beauty in that, you just have to bring it out.
As the name would suggest, the rough luxe trend is all about contrast. You don’t want to fill up a room with loads of raw materials, unless you fancy living on a building site, you want to use one or two statement pieces to provide a point of interest within an elegant space. A little bit of rough adds texture and depth, it makes a place looked lived in and less sterile. This aesthetic works particularly well in big, open-plan spaces, but not everyone is lucky enough to live in an enormous converted loft with hundreds of square feet going spare. Fortunately, it scales down nice and easy, so go for a cool shelf or set of chairs if you can’t squeeze a massive slab of wood into your dining room.
