Oncedubbed “the decade that style forgot”, the 1970s is enjoying quite the comeback, first the fashion industry couldn’t get enough, and now interior designers can’t either. Admittedly there are elements of those years that might be best left in the past – bell bottoms, brown, shag pile carpets – but bringing back some of those relaxed, free-spirited vibes will give your home a real lift.
There are various ways you can throwback to the seventies without looking like you’ve decorated for a themed party, so it’s actually quite an easy trend to incorporate into your existing space. Anything in that distinctive earthy palette – mustard, orange, avocado green, dark woods – will have instant impact. If you want to keep it a little understated, include one or two unashamedly retro items, like clocks, telephones, and record players, to act as accents. If you’re looking to go bolder, splash some geometric prints and patterns around, but keep the rest of the room neutral so you don’t get a headache from too many clashing colours.
