British-Caribbean chef and cultural practitioner Marie Mitchell uses food and nourishment as way to explore themes like history, geography and politics. Her debut cookbook Kin: Caribbean Recipes for the Modern Kitchen, is a tribute to her Caribbean identity and those that came before her, and won the Debut Cookery Book Award at the Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink Awards in 2025. She curates events, pop-ups and spaces (like the Caribbean curry, roti and rum-focused Island Social Club that ran in Hackney before the pandemic) that centre community, social inclusivity and mental health awareness.
