loti eats: the cheese bar

The Cheese Truck has finally gone perm and transformed into The Cheese Bar…yes after years of dishing out toasties from his yellow van, Mathew Carver has opened a bricks-and-mortar bar dedicated to cheese. Taking up two units in Camden Market, The Cheese Bar is way swishier than you’d expect it to be, with a slick marble counter surrounded by exposed brick and strip lighting, and a huge list of all their cheeses on the back wall (and there’s a lot of them).

Their famous grilled cheeses have been joined by a selection of small and large sharing plates, and everything has cheese in it – even a side order of spinach had little crispy shards of cheese on – so just dive right in and forget about the calories. The mozzarella sticks are gloriously stringy and a must-order and the Young Buck raclette, with oozy blue cheese, sweet leeks, salt beef and potatoes is addictive. Everyone knows cheese’s best friend is carbs, so if you don’t go for a toastie the gravy-smothered poutine will defo hit the spot.

It makes for one hell of an indulgent meal and we didn’t make it to dessert, which surprise surprise also features cheese, so if you want to try everything it’s best to round up a few people so you can spread the load. And if you’re on the move, they’ve got a take-away hatch right next door so you can grab your grilled cheese to go too.
