Tooting is on the up and The Tapas Room, a new Spanish joint in Broadway Market proves it. Nestled amongst the toot and the tat, this is South London at its trendiest, a small hole-in-the-wall with prop-up bar flanked by young professionals sipping cava and tucking into perfect small plates.
Run by the folk behind Pop Brixton and Donostia Social Club, we were expecting good things and we definitely weren’t disappointed. This eatery, deli and drink shop is just what this part of town needs with 24 seats parked against an ornate counter. There’s cheese. There’s charcuterie. And then there’s the star of the show: beautiful, Basque-inspired tapas with everything from chargrilled padron peppers and boquerones to griddled white asparagus and morcilla sausage with quail’s egg. The menu is small but very sweet indeed.[URIS id=91289]
When it comes to the drink, you can expect Spanish wine, cava, vermouth and craft beer, and you don’t have to worry about being rushed out after you’ve finished eating here either; it’s as much a wine bar as a tapas restaurant and the perfect place to people-watch with a glass of vino. The Tapas Room is Tooting at the very top of its game and we can’t wait to go back.
