With its Michelin star and stellar reputation, Lyle’s isn’t the kind of place you can really rock up to on a Saturday night and expect to get a table if you haven’t booked. Well for all you non-planners out there, you’ll be very happy to know that Lyle’s has just launched a brand new bar snack menu, meaning you’ll be able to drop in for a few small plates and a glass of wine whenever you fancy (as long as one of the six bar stools are free of course).
The menu will change a fair bit, as is to be expected these days, but if the mussel, garlic and spenwood flatbread is on, it’s a must-order. We could have eaten a few of these alone and gone home happy. Other highlights for us were the smoked eel with slightly charred cabbage and seaweed, plus the pollock with smoked roe and monk’s beard. Desserts were excellent too, particularly the burnt pear, whey caramel and Innes ice cream.
[URIS id=103070]Lyle’s isn’t really formal anyway but we actually really liked sitting up at the bar as it felt more relaxed and casual than the full-on dinner service. We tried different wines, chatted to the staff, had great food, and were in and out in an hour. It’s not exactly cheap, but as a Michelin-starred pit stop it’s pretty perfect.
