LOTI EATS | KUKU RIKU

If you’re a fan of chicken, you will love this. Kuku Riku is a new rotisserie restaurant in Camden Market that’s cooking chicken in a Josper charcoal oven to give it a distinct smoky flavour. Now this isn’t your average chicken, so don’t be thinking ‘I know my chicken’ if you frequent the local PFC, because you don’t know your chicken if that’s the case (bearing in mind the local PFC does have a time and a place, a dark place).

Kuku Riku is part of the new vision for Camden’s North Yard, with several new food stalls and restaurant openings under the leadership of Alistair Dibbs, who was previoulsy at Harrods.

We managed to make a pretty good dent in their menu with the Cornish red free range 70-Day chicken, marinated for 24 hours in their house recipe, which works like a dream alongside their chicken and Tarragon jus. It’s as lovely as it sounds, bursting with flavour, super soft and juicy. Their Buttermilk Chicken Breast Burger is a whopper too, served in a brioche bap with lettuce, tomato and garlic mayo that packs a crunch before getting a mouthful of that warm chicken breast. Superb.

Besides the main draw being the chicken, we have to give a shout out to the roasted hasselback potatoes with smoked sea salt and wild thyme. Try and not finish them, go on, we dare you. Their winter slaw also adds a nice cleansing to the palate in between chicken chunks with apple, carrot and celeriac slaw with crème fraiche, finished with roasted cashew nuts that tastes super fresh and light.

Big fans of the old Kuku Riku – it’s simple food done well and the place looks great too, with exposed bricks and black beams. A clucking great addition to Camden Town.
