loti eats | hoppers st christopher’s place

There’s no doubt that Hoppers was one of the most popular openings of 2015 and although the food was great, its tiny size meant that a 2 hour queue was pretty much standard if you wanted to eat there.

So the news that Hoppers was opening a second (bigger) site and was going to take reservations was welcomed by absolutely everyone. Now it’s finally opened, we went by to check it out and are happy to report that Hoppers 2.0 is off to a strong start.

Split over two floors there’s plenty of tables but clearly no shortage of people to fill them – the place was packed already when we arrived. We particularly liked the big cave-like booths on the basement floor which are cosy and perfect for big groups.

We probably ordered too much so try and restrain yourselves as it’s tempting to just order everything. Highlights for us were the lamb shank kari – tender lamb in a rich curry sauce – and of course the classic egg hopper to soak it all up with. We were also big fans of the goat roti and the banana leaf roasted bream which was super spicy but a great dish for a few to share.

If we had one criticism of Hoppers it’d be that all the dishes arrived so fast that it was a little overwhelming and we were so stuffed we couldn’t even consider dessert. We were in and out within an hour which was more understandable in the Soho site when there was a huge queue of people waiting but now they take bookings maybe the service could be relaxed a bit.

All in all though, with the same fantastic food, Hoppers is sure to be another hit.
