Now that both Dabbous and Barnyard are closed and we’re all waiting patiently for Ollie Dabbous’ next BIG project (coming soon to central London), his restaurant at the lovely Henrietta Hotel is currently the only place to check out his food – and we’d recommend you do because it’s excellent and there’s also a new lunch menu offering three courses for £30.

There’s three choices for each section (beware as some carry supplements) and we kicked off with a pretty plate of salmon tartare with cucumber, shredded kohlrabi and lovage, plus charred calçots with Slipcote and pine nut praline. Both were excellent, but the mains were even better; a crispy-skinned piece of gurnard with tarama and monk’s beard, and fresh ricotta dumplings with chanterelles, chestnuts and buttermilk.

Desserts were delish too. We loved the warm buckwheat waffle with smoked fudge sauce & sour cream and the freshly baked madeleines with Chantilly cream, though it seemed a bit strange that there was a £6 supplement for the latter. Luckily they were worth it!

All in all we can defo recommend it and it’s also nice to have a quiet hideaway right in the middle of Covent Garden – there aren’t too many of those.
