loti eats: dum biryani house

Dum Biryani House has landed in Soho and it specialises in, you guessed it, biryani. This isn’t the cheap and cheerful biryani you might know from your local curry house though, oh no, this is biryani done properly with all the rice and ingredients baked under a layer of flaky pastry. You can choose from chicken, veg, or lamb shank and each one come with little pots of Bhindi Pachadi (Spiced Okra Yoghurt), Baingan Mirch Salan (Baby Aubergine in a Peanut and Sesame Seed Curry), House Acharr (Pickle) and Papads to mix in.

Although the Biryani is the star of the show there’s plenty of sides and snacks to choose from as well as daily changing curry and specials. We loved the fried yoghurt patties which came with a spicy tomato chutney and the lamb shoulder with fenugreek chutney. We also went for the special fish curry and some fresh paratha bread to soak up all that sauce.

All in all Dum Biryani House is great value and an excellent addition to London’s new Indian dining options.
