loti eats | del 74 dalston

East London taco joint Del 74 only got going last year with its original Clapton restaurant and now its already on site number three, located in the heart of Dalston. Following in the footsteps of the others, its motto is ‘keep it simple, keep it real’, providing tasty, authentic Mexican food in a fun atmosphere.

We made our way through nearly the whole menu, starting with the fresh guacamole served with homemade tortilla chips and the mammoth ‘nachos for my little bro JFK’ topped with pulled pork. Taco-wise we tried Cochinita Pibil – braised leg of pork topped with avocado and red onions – the fish taco with homemade coleslaw and the Veggie Tinga with smokey chipotle chile and roasted tomato sauce. We didn’t stop there, however, grabbing the beef brisket tostada before finishing with the tamarind and chile morita ‘bad ass’ chicken wings, which are new to the Dalston menu.

It wouldn’t be a taco joint without a healthy dose of booze and Del 74 has some great drinks, including watermelon margaritas and their signature mezcal sharing bottles, which allow you to ‘self serve’ your own shots – not a dangerous idea in the slightest. Go for the tacos, stay for the mezcal and get carried away by the vibes…
