Crispin is a new day-to-night dining spot in Spitalfields from Dominic Hamdy and Oli Hiam, the pair behind Lundenwic and Scotchtails. It opened in August this year and with both an indoor pavilion and outdoor terrace, Crispin can easily become your new favourite hangout. For starters, the coffee is on point, supplied by Assembly Roast with rotating guest filters from roasters such as Dark Arts and Square Mile. There’s a range of seasonal dishes using local produce such as Clapton Park honey and Dalston’s Dusty Knuckle bread too.

The breakfast menu features your usual classics like bacon sarnies and egg & soldiers, though the lunch menu is what we had our eye on. Centred around Focaccia sandwiches and healthy salads our attention became focused on the smoked ham and cheddar toastie topped with a fried egg and Berkswell cheese. EPIC would just about sum this up.

It is layered in a strong way, three slices of bread, absolutely lashings and lashing of melted cheese, which is probably why it is it almost brought us to tears it’s so good.

Our only regret was saying we’d share one. What an error. Yes, it is just a toastie, but it’s so damn satisfying.

With a strong rotating wine list, there is a lot to get excited about with a visit to Crispin. The decor for one is a huge factor in its appeal, very Scandi, minimalist with lots of natural wood and plants just about everywhere. A dinner menu is yet to come out to play, but will soon be served alongside craft beers and classic cocktails. We’re already plotting our return.
