LOTI EATS | AVOBAR

We’re not going to lie, when we heard there was an avocado-themed restaurant in Covent Garden we couldn’t help but assume it would be gimmicky. We expected bright green decor, a wacky menu and avocados as far as the eye could see. Thankfully we had a pleasant surprise when we checked out Avobar, which is much more subtle on the eye although maybe not so much when it comes to the menus.

Everything is centred around avo, from the cocktails – hello avo margaritas – to light and fresh plates like mushroom & melon ceviche, salmon tartare, and carne asada avo tacos. For those of you who haven’t seen Avobar’s signature ‘avo bun’ burger before, it involves using avocado halves instead of a bread bun. We’re still on the fence as to whether it’s technically any healthier but it’ll sure as hell get you more social media engagement #doingitforthegram.

Obviously we couldn’t visit without trying it, so we went for the newest version, the prawn avo bun burger, where beef is swapped for a chunky prawn patty, topped with beetroot hummus and served with sweet potato wedges. Naturally avocados crop up in the desserts too, and the tiramisu green, with avo mascarpone and green mousse, was a surprisingly good take on the Italian classic.

Whilst avocados have become an ingredient millennials cannot live without, over-farming is having a serious knock -on effect on the planet and farming community. Avobar have taken this into consideration and are committed to only using sustainably and ethically sourced avocados, so go avo look ????
