LOTI EATS (AT HOME) | LAHPET

Even though we love Lahpet and Burmese food in general, we were surprised at just how good it translated to the home delivery / DIY kit concept. You can tell Lahpet have really thought about their offering, choosing to focus on a few key dishes as well as condiments and ‘larder’ items, rather than trying to throw their whole restaurant menu on Deliveroo.

On offer for delivery or collection are two salad making kits (the eponymous ‘lahpet’ tea leaf salad and a ginger salad), as well as a coconut noodle kit. In addition, there’s a whole range of Lahpet-branded larder ingredients such as shallot oil, pickles, and house chilli jam, as well as a Lahpet bottled margarita and Myanmar beer.

We totally fell in love with tea leaf salad on our epic trip to Myanmar a few years ago and to be able to recreate it at home was amazing. In the kit you’ll get the pickled tea leaves, fried beans, cabbage, chilli, garlic, dried shrimps, dressing, fish sauce and sesame seeds. You just need to add your own tomatoes and lime, mix it all together and you’ve got an absolute banger of a salad.

The coconut noodle kit has the coconut broth base, egg noodles, a cooked egg, shallot, coriander and lime. You could cook it up just like this if you wanted a vegetarian version but if not then you can add your own diced chicken thigh for a meaty version – we did this and it was absolutely delicious, one of the best lockdown delivery dishes we’ve had!

From the larder, we can recommend two products especially which we loved – the tamarind sauce and the Shan tofu. This is isn’t your average tofu! Made from split peas instead of soy, it’s silky smooth and goes amazingly well with the tamarind sauce. In fact, we’d go as far as saying it’s the best tofu we’ve ever tried.

If you’re after something a bit different on the delivery front then Lahpet comes highly recommended from us.
