LOTI EATS | 14 HILLS
14 Hills, on the 14th floor of 120 Fenchurch Street with Thomas Piat (previously of Bar Boulud) heading up the kitchen, opened at the end of last year, and the tropical oasis that you find up there is the ideal antidote to the winter blues. Not only are the interiors dreamy – the outside has been brought in with plants from floor to ceiling – but the views are amazing, especially as the sun goes down and the room is flooded with light.
The onyx bar takes centre stage and it’s worth stopping here sip on a couple of cocktails as both The Hive and the signature Fourteen 75 were pretty knockout.
Once at the our table, we started with three Jersey rock oysters, given a citrusy, spicy kick thanks to lemon and Tabasco, before moving onto dover sole, which was de-boned and plated table-side and a succulent chicken kiev loaded with garlic and parsley butter. Gratin dauphinois provided that rich and creamy naughtiness with a side of extra fine green beans to balance out our conscience.
For puds, we went for a sharing portion of apple and blackberry pie with clotted cream. Does sharing food make you also eat twice as fast in fear of missing out? This one was very short-lived so we’re taking that as a yes. We were also pleased to see Nyetimber on the wine list as we’re big fans of the English sparkling wine.
All in all 14 Hills is a great place to visit with the views and decor really adding to the experience. Go take a look at the forest in the sky.
