London’s BAFTA and BIFA qualifying Short Film Festival is back for 2024, celebrating its 21st year with the new Orbital project, which’ll see the fest work with more venues, audiences and collaborators than ever before. This month, several thematic programmes of short films will be screened at various cinemas and cultural hubs across the city, including the ICA, Rich Mix, Rio and Genesis. Just a few of the highlights from 2024’s programme include the short films of Afro-Cuban filmmaker Sara Gómez (screening in London for the first time), a retrospective of filmmaker and music video director Ian Pons Jewell, and the short films of Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon. Alongside the shorts, which range from indie animation to international documentary, there’ll be Q&As, talks, live performances and more.
