London Fashion Week hangover may be easing off but its legacy lives on in furniture form this month with an exciting new collaboration. Giles Deacon is well known for his bold ideas and colourful designs and this season he has turned his hand from fashion to furniture with his Lipgloss design for DFS.

This partnership with DFS sofas has seen Giles transfer his lippy designs from London Fashion Week onto a three-seater sofa and a footstool. His S/S ‘14 ready-to-wear collection featured dresses with big and bright lip motifs and these proved to work just as well on home furnishings as they do on his catwalk models.

Deacon had dubbed the Lipgloss style as ‘sophistipop’: combining clean lines with a daring print to make a stand out feature in a room. Its monochrome base print with flashes of orange mean it can easily fit into a functioning home while bringing just the right amount of style with it.

What better way to bring the catwalk into your living room? Comfort was an important consideration for Giles when developing his design for DFS. He wanted to combine fashion, quality and comfort in a statement design, and claimed “the mainstay of every room is a sofa, so it’s well worth getting the right one.”

He likened the DFS workshop to his own atelier, talking of the beautiful handmade frames as well as an amazing choice of fabrics and frameworks.

He said: “It’s been a real eye-opener into the furniture world. The prospect of working with a furniture brand who’ve been in business for over 40 years was really interesting to me.”

Giles has collaborated with other brands in the past (including Converse and Sky), but the world of furniture was new to him. He said he’s attracted to statement strong pieces with bold colour or a bold pattern, something this sofa certainly achieves!
