It’s been a challenging year for the drinks industry but things are looking up, especially as London Cocktail Week, the city’s biggest celebration of booze and bars, is back for 2020. And this time it really is better than ever as the festival is running for an entire MONTH.

As with previous years, one £15 festival wristband gets you access to £6 signature serves at hundreds of bars (all with high health and safety protocols in place). If you’re into whisky, The Sun Tavern is well worth a visit – not only is the bar well stocked with the stuff but their LCW serve, the Wee Swallie, is made with Aberfeldy 12 yo whisky, oloroso sherry, ginger beer and salted mead.

As well as the £6 serves and £4 non-alcoholic options for those off the sauce, many bars will also be mixing up special £9 Moët & Chandon champagne cocktails. Basement bar Nine Lives, which has a zero-waste ethos, is one of them, serving up the Grapefruit 75 made with Tanqueray No.TEN gin, fresh pink grapefruit juice, thyme sugar, Moët & Chandon Champagne and an absinthe spritz. The festival pass is valid for the whole month so you’ve got plenty of time to make your way around the bars and try all those drinks.

The Cocktail Village isn’t returning for 2020, instead a series of socially distanced events and pop-ups are happening at bars across the city, including tastings and masterclasses at Whisky House at Goods Way in King’s Cross; a VR experience at The Laphroaig Library at Oriole; and a Jack Daniel’s takeover at London Shuffle Club.

And if you’re not quite ready to hit the bars in person, LCW has partnered with The Drinks Drop to deliver a selection of the £6 signature serves nationwide. Many of the tastings and masterclasses will also be available digitally so you can create your very own festival at home. CHEERS.
