The Barbican is hosting a major exhibition on post-Second World War art in Britain, a time where artists were working with both the aftershocks of a devasting conflict and the hope for a brighter future. Around 200 works across painting, photography, sculpture and collage from 48 artists will be on show in Postwar Modern, exploring themes like the body, the Blitzed street, the post-atomic condition and new horizons. As well as showcasing some well-known artists, the exhibition will also feature artists who came to Britain as migrants or refugees, and female artists often overlooked at the time.
