Pizza Party is a new social enterprise based in Kentish Town, which focuses on flipping pizza into work for people with autism. Founder Aparna Bangur was inspired by her autistic son’s own love of pizza and the bigger question about what independence might look like for him as he grows up. Only three in ten autistic people in the UK are currently in work, and Aparna wanted to do something about that. So, Pizza Party was born! The brand’s supported internship programme, which is run in partnership with learning disability charity Mencap, trains small cohorts of autistic young adults in a real kitchen to help create routes into paid hospitality work. It’s currently only open for takeaway, but there are plans to open more pizzerias across London.
