The Hayward Gallery is hosting the first major retrospective on Louise Bourgeois that focuses on her fabric and textile works. During the last two decades of her career Bourgeois started to use textiles, including clothes, linens and tapestries, many from her personal history, into her art. The resulting installations, sculptures and collages explore themes of sexuality, family, identity, trauma, and memory, topics that she had been interrogating throughout her life. The exhibition will include many pieces that haven’t been shown in the UK before as well as one of her signature spider sculptures.
