We absolutely fell in love with Makgeolli (Korean rice wine) on a trip to Seoul a couple of years ago. It’s pretty hard to get in the UK as it’s not exported so it’s a real treat to be able to visit Hana, a proper Makgeolli brewery in Brooklyn when you are in New York. They do guided tours which take you through how they make their different styles of Makgeolli, which finish up with a tasting flight in the bar area. Best of all, they serve some awesome dishes too – we loved the scallion and garlic chive pancake, the braised pork belly slices, and the spicy cold noodles especially. Look out for regular special events and guest chefs too. Highly recommended if you are already a makgeolli fan, or want to try the real stuff without flying to Korea!.
