The Tate Modern is hosting the largest retrospective of Dora Maar ever held in the UK, with over 200 works from her long career explored in the context of work by her contemporaries, bringing her out of the shadow of her relationship with Picasso. She was known for her surrealist photomontages as well as commercial photography and social documentary projects, like the creation of Picasso’s Guernica. The pair also worked on experimental photography and printmaking portraits before she focused on painting in later life.
