If sushi, robata skewers and hirata buns sounds like your kinda brunch then Shoreditch izakaya spot Apothecary is the place for you. Their weekend brunch menu is stacked with Japanese faves and you get to try a bit of everything as you pick a dish from each of the skewers, buns, veg, fried and dessert sections. So after starting with sushi rolls for the table, you can tuck into teriyaki chicken skewers, pork belly & gochujang hirata buns, Japanese fried chicken, charred gem lettuce with citrus miso, smoky tenderstem broccoli, miso glazed aubergine, yaki soba noodles, and miso caramel ice cream. With two people you get most of the menu, with a bigger group you’d be able to have the lot. It’s £35 per person for the food and a welcome drink on arrival, which is decent value for the amount and variety you get (the plates can come out pretty rapidly so just be prepared for a very full table) and if you want to make it bottomless, you can add on free-flowing drinks for £25 per person. This is where Apothecary really nails it because if bubbles ain’t your thing, you can do bottomless cocktails instead, with Bloody Marys, Summer Cups and Coffee Cobblers available, and you don’t have to stick to the same drink either. Cheers to that.
