If you thought Greek food was all pita, souvlaki and tzatziki then you’d be wrong. Okay, not fully wrong, but what we will say is there is a WHOLE LOT more to it. There was a big gap for premium Greek food in London before Ampéli arrived, so we thank Zeus they’re finally here. It’s a bit of a suave spot, styled with pistachio greens, dark browns and rotating art on the walls. But listen carefully, there’s one bit of advice you must heed. The food here is best shared (we know, we rarely share either, but trust us on this one). Feast on the likes of tomato & goat’s cheese fritters with tempura okra; josper smoked aubergine; spiced potato burik with egg yolk and brown shrimp; and onglet shish with grilled broccoli and caramelised yoghurt. If the wine list is all Greek to you – it will be, the bottles are literally all from mainland Greece and the islands – ask for a recommendation and get stuck in.
