VILLAGE UNDERGROUND
12TH MAY 2014

tUnE-yArDs AKA Merrill Garbus, that’s how it’s stylized, no alcohol was consumed in the making of this article….honest, is so awesome that even watching the instruments being set up for her gig at The Village Underground was intriguing.

Ridiculously amazing, and some gravity defying, haircuts bopped along as Garbus managed to create drum loops on the spot while casually hitting notes that could probably break glass, good thing they’ve plastic cups eh?

The set list was a mixture of classics as well as some new material from her latest album, despite being first listen for many, caused no dent in crowd enthusiasm. Stage presence was undeniably powerful as the singer/multi-instrumentalist managed to create a very genuine connection with the audience while clearly enjoying the night with her band and of course partner-in-crime bass player Nate Brenner. In fact it would seem the only negative aspect of a tUnE-yArDs gig is realising just how boring your fashion sense is compared with the other attendees.
