BARFLY
NOV 2012

Shields are tighter than Justin Hawkins’s spandex. An early show at Camden Barfly, 8.15 to be precise sees an impressive crowd stretch from the front of the stage to the back bar in order to watch this alt pop band from Newcastle. They are meticulously rehearsed and it pays, their show seems so slick and everything is pitch perfect. These guys seem to take what was so exciting about Klaxons and channel it in a way that is even more infectious and they don’t have the status of being a ‘cool London band’ to come and hit them in the face.

Switching between instruments the band keep everyone entertained through their catchy dancey indie with melodies that float all around, they seem to come up and give you a little tap on the shoulder and tell you to shake your hips. You can’t help it. Songs like ‘Mezzanine’ and their excellent cover of SBTRKT’s ‘Pharaohs’ are outstanding to see live. For a new band their confidence and musicianship is impressive, they will be without doubt on to big things next year. Check them out and get into the ep, if you missed what we said about it, catch up here.
