ISLINGTON ASSEMBLY HALL
THU 20TH FEBRUARY 2015
When Brittany Howard walks on stage in a body con jungle print dress, Will Smith’s haircut, and an electric guitar, you know this is about to be fantastic. And Alabama Shakes were fantastic. As part of a month’s worth of NME award shows in the build up to the ceremony on Wednesday night, Alabama Shakes packed out Islington Assembly Hall, ensuring the month continued in style.
Alabama Shakes combine rock and soul with their own attitude and supreme authenticity and it’s instantly not hard to see how they sell out shows. Heading out to tour the rest of the world, their U.S. dates are set to include their second appearance on SNL.
“Tonight in honor of keeping it real we’re gonna play ya’ll a bunch of new songs,” said Howard in her Alabama twang. Alabama Shakes have a new album, Sound & Color, out in April which we’ve been waiting for since their debut Boys and Girls in 2012.
