Nuno Mendes is stepping away from the Fitzrovia site at the end of August
Opened on Charlotte Street in 2022, Lisboeta, described as Nuno Mendes’ love letter to Lisbon, quickly won over diners and critics alike, and has regularly featured in the UK’s Top 100 Restaurants list. Now Nuno is stepping back from the London restaurant so that he grow the concept internationally, as well as focus on his other projects in Portugal (Cozinha das Flores and The Largo in Porto and Santa Joana in Lisbon), and work on a new London venture. Though Nuno may be leaving Lisboeta – the last service will be on Sat 23rd August – Portuguese food will remain.
MJMK Restaurants, who own the site, will bring in Leandro Carreira, known for running The Sea, The Sea, as a consultant executive chef for new restaurant Luso. The space will be refurbished before it reopens in September (with the quick turnaround, we’re not anticipating any major changes) where the menu will be more casual and inspired by the Iberian Atlantic coastline, with dishes like:
- salt baked wild sea bass
- clams à bulhão pato.
- oven-roasted suckling pig
- pregos – steak sliders with brown butter, Portuguese Savora mustard, and garlic
- Cornish spider crab tartare
- Tocinho do Céu (almond cake),
- chocolate mousse with olive oil and salt
- baked pineapple pudding
Speaking about the opening, MJMK co-founders Marco Mendes and Jake Kasumov said: “This is a proud moment for MJMK – to honour the legacy of Lisboeta and support its evolution into Luso is incredibly special. We’re looking forward to this next chapter for both the team and the restaurant. It’s a sentimental moment being able to bring to London the dishes from the lesser-known parts of Portugal and offer a menu that taps into the crossover with Andalusian, Basque, and Galician cooking.”
