LINETT KAMALA LIVE MURAL PAINTING

A new mural is to be unveiled outside the Studio West Gallery in time for the return of Notting Hill Carnival. The project is being carried out by multi-disciplinary artist, DJ, carnivalist and educator Linett Kamala, who wants the mural to bring attention to the story of local activist Rhaune Laslett, a principal organiser of the first Notting Hill Carnival. Kamala has been connected to the Carnival for over 36 years, having been its first female DJ at the age of 15, and her practice is always socially engaged and deeply rooted in community empowerment. The new artwork, which will reflect each of these influences, will be live painted on 24th and 25th of August by Kamala and a group of young creatives who she mentors. But, if you can’t make it for those dates, the mural will still be on display until 7th September.
