1873, Levi Strauss & Co. created the world’s first ever blue jeans. Since then Levi’s has become known for inventing, and then innovating the denim industry. Just 2 years later, Arthur Liberty opened his department store in London and to this day, remains the destination of choice for savvy and sophisticated shoppers.

This is why we are very excited about the collaboration of these two major brands. LEVI’S x LIBERTY combines the classic silhouettes of Levi’s and the iconic floral prints from the Liberty archives. This is the perfect marriage – classic design meets American and British heritage. The collection is an instant wardrobe update for Spring 13’.

Set against soft indigo, the collection features two prints. The usually ditsy and girly Liberty florals have been given a modern update. A print named Kerr Bandana has taken inspiration from a 1940s painting taken from the archives, which has now become a polka dot laser print. However it’s the hero print called Carlin that really stands out. Again from the archives, the print features a multi floral design from a 1970s watercolour.

The Carlin print, whose name steams from Senior Designer of the collection Jennifer Carlin, explains the collaboration was based on a heritage connection between the brands.

“We’re excited to work with Liberty on such a unique collaboration that combines denim with (Liberty) fabrics…It’s been a great opportunity to share our American heritage and perspective with this quintessential British brand.”

It’s hard to think that Levi’s are an American brand. We’ve all at some point in our lives owned a pair of Levi’s. Our family albums feature a lot of stonewash! The 501 is an iconic piece of wearable history and will always be in fashion.

With 15 pieces to choose from, it was hard to pick our favorite. If you want to wear the look head to toe, the more contemporary pieces – the chambray skater skirt and punchy printed crop vest look amazing together. But for us, it has to be the super short shorts. With the subtle Carlin floral pocket bags, just peeking out of the bottom…These are the perfect partner to Hunter wellies and a ticket to Glastonbury. Bring on the summer!

There is something quite unique about this collaboration. It’s almost as if it has a commemorative vibe surrounding it. It certainly proves there’s life left in these old boys yet!

Available exclusively at Liberty from April, and then selected Levi’s stores in May.
