The influential grassroots spot is reopening this summer
At a time where independent venues are struggling, this is a welcome bit of good news – Camden’s Barfly is coming back as Propaganda Independent Venues is reopening the venue under its original name.
Playing Barfly was a rite of passage for artists tipped for the big time and between 1996 – 2016, the likes of Coldplay, Adele, The Cure, Muse, Elbow, Biffy Clyro, Ed Sheeran, The Strokes, Bloc Party, The Killers, The 1975, Sam Fender, Kasabian, The Libertines, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Supergrass, Scissor Sisters, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Fall and more all played the 200-capacity room.
Barfly 2.0 will feature a wall of fame celebrating the venue’s history, with never-before-seen photography and a series of blue plaques. The main room will have an upgraded sound system and lighting rig, with a vinyl listening bar stocked with a curated record collection and a1959 AMI vintage jukebox.
Frank Turner, whose band Million Dead played their first ever show at Barfly in 2001 and who played a record six shows there as a solo artist, is relaunching the venue with a headline show on Mon 22nd June.
