Personally,we’re glad that we have the likes of 1D opening the gates for Brits to slink through to the U.S, otherwise, we may not have the likes of Laura Marling ‘making it’ to the biggest audiences possible and spreading their wings. She’s a bit nomadic, a bit romantic, and relocated to LA for new experiences, even more self-discovery and to make new music and videos.
‘Gurdijeff’s Daughter’ comes from plaudit winning fifth album, Short Movie, and is yet another reminder to appreciate her records as a wave of awe and spine-tingling beauty will inevitably wash over you.
The video was filmed at her LA pad, with international friends ‘playing’ the subjects of the lyrics. As Laura says “Keep your eyes on the back of your mind” The song is a list of cautionary instructions for modern relationships. I think we can temporarily nudge the whimsical folk tag to the side this one, as she’s dabbling in gorgeous, sun-drenched pop/rock, albeit with honest, witty, clever lyrics and an ever-strengthening voice that twists and turns like the Hollywood Hills.
